The 2D2 5400 electric locomotives, put into service in the 1930s, are an icon of the French rail network. Designed to meet the growing need for fast, reliable transport, they were mainly used on the electrified lines of the South-East network, linking Paris to Lyon and beyond. With their 2D2 axle configuration, they offered exceptional stability at high speeds, reaching up to 130 km/h.
Their aesthetics, marked by an aerodynamic body and imposing bogies, testified to the ingenuity of the time. These locomotives were equipped with powerful, robust engines, ensuring efficient operation even over long distances. Although retired from service in the 1970s, they remain in the memory of railway enthusiasts, embodying a period of modernization and technological progress.
