BB 15000 locomotives, built by Alsthom from 1971 onwards, are emblematic SNCF electrical machines. Operating on 25 kV alternating current, they were specially designed for the electrified lines of the French network. With their modern design for their time and their original TEE livery, they have left their mark on the railway landscape for decades. With a power output of 4,400 kW, they were capable of reaching a maximum speed of 160 km/h, enabling them to pull both passenger and freight trains.
These locomotives were notably assigned to the prestigious Corail and Intercités trains, becoming a symbol of the national mainline. Their reliability and adaptability made them a series much appreciated by drivers. Today, although they are gradually being replaced by modern self-propelled trains, some BB 15000s remain in service, testifying to their longevity and success in French railway history.
