The BB 9400 and BB 9600 electric locomotives, built by Alsthom between the 1950s and 1960s, are emblems of the French rail network. These machines are part of the famous "BB Jacquemin" series, renowned for their versatility and reliability. BB 9400s, adapted to non-electrified 1.5 kV DC lines, were mainly used for passenger and freight services in south-west France. As for the BB 9600s, they were distinguished by their modernized equipment, including low-intensity control, optimizing their performance on similar routes. With a power output of 2,940 kW, they reached a top speed of 120 km/h, ideal for local missions. Their sober yet robust design symbolizes a key era in French railway electrification. Today, although retired from active service, these locomotives remain a subject of interest for railway heritage enthusiasts.
