SNCF's 2D2 5000, 2D2 5100 and 2D2 5300 electric locomotives are icons of French railways from the 1930s to the 1970s. Designed to pull fast trains on electrified 1,500 volt DC lines, they left their mark on the history of rail transport.
The 2D2 5000, delivered in the 1920s, were among the first high-performance electric locomotives, with their robust design and 2D2 configuration guaranteeing excellent grip.
The 2D2 5100, derived from the 5000, brought technical improvements for greater reliability and power.
Finally, the 2D2 5300s, delivered in the 1930s, represented the pinnacle of this line, with performance optimized for prestigious express trains. These locomotives were distinguished by their elegant silhouette, central cab and silent operation. Although no longer in existence, they embody the golden age of France's main power lines.
