SNCF's 2D2 9100 electric locomotives, put into service in the 1950s, are symbols of the electrification of France's main lines to 1,500 volts DC. Designed to pull high-speed express trains, they were distinguished by their imposing silhouette and 2D2 axle configuration, offering excellent stability and grip. These locomotives, built by Alsthom, could reach a maximum speed of 140 km/h, a remarkable performance for the time. Primarily used on lines linking Paris to the south of France, notably the Paris-Lyon-Marseille line, they provided prestigious services such as the "Mistral". Their powerful engines and robust design enabled them to handle heavy loads over long distances. Although gradually replaced by more modern locomotives such as the BB 9200 and the first generations of TGVs, the 2D2 9100 remains an important milestone in French railway history, celebrated by enthusiasts for its elegance and reliability.
