SNCF's CC 40100 locomotives are iconic machines, designed in the 1960s for international services. These four-current electric locomotives were able to operate on the French, Belgian, Dutch and German networks, thanks to their compatibility with different electrification systems. With their slender design and metallic gray livery, they symbolized elegance and modernity. Equipped with six driving axles and a power rating of 5,900 kW, they were used to pull prestigious trains such as the Trans-Europ-Express (TEE), including the Molière, the Brabant and the Ostend-Vienna. CC 40100s offered comfort and speed, reaching speeds of up to 200 km/h. Their panoramic driver's cab and quiet operation were particularly appreciated. Retired from service in the 1990s, they remain a symbol of the golden age of European rail transport.
