The TGV Atlantique are SNCF TGV electric trainsets, capable of 300 km/h, put into service in 1989 to coincide with the opening of the first branch (West) of the LGV Atlantique high-speed line.
The total number of trainsets, all built between 1988 and 1992, is 105. This is the second generation of TGVs. Improvements include more streamlined power cars, and a greater number of them (10 instead of 8).
In addition, power has been increased from 6459 to 8800 kW, compared with the TGV PSE.
In 1990, a TGV Atlantique train set a new world speed record of over 515 km/h.
