The TGV POS, developed by Alstom for SNCF in the 2000s, is a three-current train designed for international connections to Germany and Switzerland via the LGV Est Européenne high-speed line. Entering service in 2007, it is made up of new three-coupled locomotives combined with renovated trailers, and features modern technologies such as an asynchronous drive train and several signalling systems. The power cars, similar to those used on the TGV Duplex and PBKA, are specially adapted for use in Germany and Switzerland.

In 2011, management of the fleet was entrusted to Lyria - a subsidiary of SNCF and SBB - which moved departures to Paris-Gare de Lyon. In 2019, these trainsets will be returned to SNCF for TGV inOui services, after Lyria has replaced the POS with Euroduplexes.

In 2022, SNCF is launching a program to convert TGV POS and Réseau Duplex trainsets into "POS-Duplex" trainsets, combining POS engines and renovated Duplex trailers. Of the 19 trainsets thus constituted, 13 are operated by TGV inOui and 6 by Ouigo Tango.

Since their introduction, TGV POS trains have served a wide range of destinations, including Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Munich, Mulhouse, Basel, Zurich, Nancy and Épinal. From 2011, they will also serve the South-East axis, with connections to Zurich, Berne, Lausanne and other cities.

Among the emblematic trainsets, the 4402 set the world rail speed record in 2007 at 574.8 km/h. The pre-production 4401 had a special livery, while 4406 was originally owned by SBB before being integrated into Lyria.
