The BB 22200 is a series of 205 SNCF dual-current electric mainline locomotives, introduced into service in 1976 and still in service today.
They are the dual-current version of the broken-nose family of locomotives. They can run on both 1,500 V direct current and 25,000 V 50 Hz alternating current, unlike the other locomotives in this family, which can only run on one or the other type of current, i.e. BB 7200 and BB 15000 respectively.
Their numbering is based on the principle still in force at the time of delivery: number of the dual-current version = number of the 1,500 V version + number of the 25,000 V version, i.e. 22200 = 7200 + 15000 respectively.
