This first volume traces the fascinating history of the BB series of broken noses, while the second volume will develop the BBB and CC series. Each series is meticulously detailed: routes, assignments, liveries, special features, and even changes of ownership. Thanks to a rich iconography of mostly unpublished photos and archives, the reader travels back in time through the careers of these emblematic machines. A map also shows all the routes covered by each series.
The book opens with the BB 7003, 10003, 10004, 20011 and 20012 prototypes, pioneers in the development of major machines such as the BB 26000 and the first high-speed trains.
Then come the BB 7200s, a series of 240 locomotives that made their mark on the Atlantic and South-East networks, at the head of prestigious trains, and some of which later evolved into BB 7600s to end their careers in the Île-de-France region. The book also looks back at the epic of the BB 15000, queens of the East and champions of reliability, as well as the 205 BB 22200, another essential series in the French railway landscape.
The adventure continues outside France with the 1600 and 1700 series, which first enjoyed a brilliant career with the Nederlandse Spoorwegen, before winning over various private operators.
The reader then leaves the Netherlands to discover ONCF's E1300/1350s, still in service in Morocco, Brazil's mysterious EC 362 FRs, and Portugal's 2600/2620s, recently brought back to life after almost a decade in the garage.
A rich, well-documented and indispensable work for all enthusiasts of electric locomotives, SNCF equipment, railway history and international series.
