SNCF's CC 72100 locomotives are emblematic diesel-electric units, the result of modernization of the CC 72000 in the 2000s. Designed to haul passenger trains on non-electrified lines, they are powered by a 2,650 kW Pielstick engine. These locomotives are distinguished by their imposing silhouette and their blue and grey livery, the symbol of long-distance service. Modernized to meet environmental standards and improve reliability, they have been fitted with a new electronic management system.
Used mainly on lines such as Paris-Troyes-Belfort and Paris-Granville, they have left their mark on railway history with their powerful sound and their ability to pull heavy trains at high speed. With the arrival of new equipment such as dual-mode railcars, CC 72100s have gradually been withdrawn from service, but they remain highly appreciated by train enthusiasts for their aesthetics and performance.
