The CC 65000 locomotives, nicknamed "broken noses" because of their angular design, are emblematic machines of French railway heritage. Built between 1957 and 1959 by Brissonneau and Lotz for the SNCF, they were intended for freight transport on non-electrified lines. Equipped with 1,600 hp diesel engines, they could reach speeds of up to 120 km/h.
These six-axle locomotives, with electric transmission, were distinguished by their robustness and adaptability to difficult terrain. Mainly deployed in the South-West and Central regions of France, they played a key role in the development of secondary networks.
Gradually replaced by more modern models, CC 65000s marked their era before being withdrawn from service in the 1980s.
