Who doesn't have a fond memory of the Jouef network plan book from the late sixties? Or Philippe Lévêque's projects from the 1980s? Beautifully illustrated and ambitious, these two examples have left their mark on generations of model-makers. Both were milestones in the way we design networks. They were not the only ones, as magazines (including Rail Miniature Flash) modestly contributed to the edifice through their pages.

Since then, model railroading has come of age, and we're living in a kind of golden age. Motorized and towed equipment is now of incomparable finesse, and scenery has also made dazzling progress in the space of a decade. As for the detailing of the track and its surroundings, this too is the subject of increasing attention.
But what about the way we design our networks today? Should we still rely on translations of small-format German books extolling the virtues of "spaghetti" layouts to run our most beautiful Region 5 Epoch IV digital locomotives? And what about naive, imaginary transpositions of fictitious lines connecting Trifouillis-les-Oies to Yapluqua-les-Mines, bringing together this magnificent laser-cut North BV with its PLM WCs and this 3D-printed PO platform shelter in the same station? Perhaps not...

So here's a book of network projects based on reality, with no flights of fancy, but not without prospects!
